Author, bibliographer. Dr. Hellmut E. Lehmann-Haupt (1903-1992) was born in Berlin and educated at the Universities of Berlin, Vienna and Frankfurt where he concentrated on the fine arts and early book illustration. Coming to the U.S. in 1929, Lehmann-Haupt was named curator of the rare book department of Columbia University Library the following year.
